Overview

Our Explore Cape Verde’s Santiago in 8 days holiday is a wonderful fusion of all this stunning archipelago has to offer.

This trip is the perfect opportunity to discover the island with this unique Cape Verde holiday.

After a free day at the beginning of your trip, your guide will take you on a trip to Cape Verde’s earliest settlement Cidade Velha, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. After lunch, you visit the capital Praia, a bustling, vibrant city built over several plateaus.

The following day you head off into the interior and drive on winding roads and pass impressive mountain peaks and fertile valleys of manioc and banana. You will be staying on the outskirts of Assomada for 3 nights, where you have the opportunity to mix with the locals and haggle when buying fruit at the covered Assomada market, with all its colours, smells and noise.

You’ll end your fantastic Cape Verde holiday with a last night on the ocean front of Praia, at the wonderful Oasis Atlantico.

Itinerary

Depart Heathrow and fly via Lisbon to Santiago in Cape Verde. On arrival transfer to the Hotel Oasis Praia Mar where you stay for three nights.
A free day to relax in the Oasis Atlantico and explore the coastline of Praia city.
After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide and will tour to the oldest settlement in Cape Verde - Cidade Velha. Here the guide will take you on a historical stroll to Rua Banana, the Nossa Senhora do Rosario church and the Pelourinho (pillory). You visit the fort which overlooks the bay. On your way back you visit Praia city where over a quarter of all of Cape Verde lives - and which feels more African than anywhere else on the islands. You start at the main square on the Plateau and walk among some imposing buildings like the Catholic cathedral, the Presidential palace and the statue of Diogo Gomes which overlooks the sea. Try not to lose sight of your guide when you're walking through colourful and bustling Sukopira market, a place full of merchandise and curiosities.
A full and busy day, when your guide takes you on an in-depth tour of the island. This includes visits to Assomada market and the Serra Malagueta Natural Park (with an optional short walk). Don't forget your swimming gear as you have the opportunity for a short swim at Tarrafal. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at Pousada Vassora where you stay for three nights. Lunch is included
This is a free day, but you can ask Jean the owner of the Pousada to organise a taxi for you and return to Assomada market. Spend more time strolling around the colourful African market. It's even bigger on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you like to stretch your legs you could walk down the green valley to the magnificent and centuries old Boa Entrada (Kapok tree).
Free day. You may wish do do some more walking in the area, return to Tarrafal to visit the beach again or not do anything at all, as the Pousada is great place to relax, to put your feet up and soak up the surroundings from the comfort of your balcony.
After breakfast, you will be transferred back again to Praia where you have another night at the Hotel Oasis Atlantico Praiamar. The rest of the day is free. If you like music, you may want to book at table at the Quintal da Musica, a popular restaurant which has live music every night.
Free day and use of a day room until it's time for your evening transfer to the airport. Fly home on an overnight flight.

Activities

We have included a fantastic range of activities on Santiago. Most are suitable for all ages, but many can be adapted to your abilities and experience and if you especially love diving then you'll love Santiago with its dark historical past and a coast littered with ship wrecks.

Location

Santiago is one of the southern islands of Cape Verde and has so much to offer from two volcanic mountain ranges which dominate the island to Tarrafal with its pretty sandy cove; great for snorkelling, relaxing and diving.
