Overview

For a taste of splendid isolation without foregoing all ‘mod-cons’, Pedracin Village holds a lot of appeal.

The elevated location is unique and is about 10kms from Ribeira Grande, the nearest town.

The buildings are made out of traditional materials, with much use of stone and thatch. The result is a mountain retreat which could be the base for exploring on foot the stunning surrounding landscape, catching up on reading or simply some relaxation with an occasional dip in the pool.

Pedracin has 32 stone chalets spread on different levels across the attractive landscaped hotel grounds. The en-suite rooms are simply furnished, though hot water can be intermittent – not usually much of an inconvenience, given the warm daytime temperatures. Rooms can sleep up to three guests (2 adults) and have air conditioning and heating.

A rarity for Santo Antão accommodation, Pedracin has a swimming pool, which although fairly small, is nevertheless a huge bonus after a day of strenuous hiking.

The restaurant is spacious and has the same panoramic views of the valley. For those coming here directly from the ferry at Porto Novo, the journey time is around one hour, along the scenic coastal road.
