Windsurfing in Cape Verde

Sal is the absolute destination for windsurfing holidays in Cape Verde.

The island regularly hosts world-class competitions including the world championships inspired by their winning local surfistas! Santa Maria Bay provides excellent conditions for beginners, up to the advanced Ponta Preta quoted by local hero, Josh Angulo, as the best windsurfing beach in the world.

With water 1-2m deep and no currents but great swell, this is heaven and an ideal spot for windsurfers of all abilities. The bay where the school/hire centre is located is stunning with white sand and turquoise seas, a great surf shop, and a beach restaurant. Surf safaris are also available.

The best time for beginners to learn is from May to August when the winds are not that strong and the waves are smaller. Intermediate and advanced windsurfers will be right at home from December to March when the waves are higher.
